The recurring parties, drag shows and bar nights you can count on every week — here's the regular rhythm of the Chicago scene, before you scan what's on this specific weekend below.
Thursday eases the neighborhood into the weekend. Kit Kat Lounge runs its long-running cabaret alongside House of Couture Thursdays, a fashion-forward drag showcase that's one of the more polished mid-week shows in Northalsted. Over in Boystown's leather corner, Cell Block keeps it cruisy with Thirsty Thursday, and up in Uptown the bears gather at 2Bears Tavern Uptown for its weekly open mic.
Friday is when the dance floors come alive. Sidetrack — the giant, video-screen anchor of Halsted — opens with show tunes and a Drag Race party before its Friday Night Dance Party takes over until the small hours. A few blocks south, Hydrate goes late with DJs and a Drag Race watch party, while the country crowd two-steps and then dances past midnight at Charlie's. For something legendary, The Baton Show Lounge in Uptown puts on the most prestigious female-impersonation revue in the country, with multiple showtimes through the night. Up in Rogers Park, Touché keeps Chicago's leather tradition burning since 1977.
Saturday is the big one. Both Sidetrack and Hydrate run their marquee Saturday dance nights — Hydrate's revue is a glam, high-energy showcase of Chicago's best performers — and delivers its world-famous drag review. Daytime belongs to brunch: and both pour bottomless mimosas alongside a drag show. Later, does its country line dancing before the after-midnight dance set, and hosts Chicago's original Bear Night on the first Saturday of the month.
