Andy Cohen Almost Skipped the Hamptons Party Where He Met His Boyfriend

Andy Cohen has spent years being asked when he was going to get a boyfriend. His answer, every time, was that he'd know when he met the person.

On July 17 he posted a photograph.

One image, the two of them outdoors, both smiling with an arm around the other. Two words of caption and five emojis — a heart, a star, a rainbow, a sun, a lightning bolt — and that was the entire post.

The man beside him is Kevin Sobieski, 42, a businessman, as E! News reported. Cohen is 58. The comments filled up with Bravolebrities: Kyle Cooke offered “Stud muffins”; Real Housewives of Atlanta alum Marlo Hampton went with “Date night looks good on you”; Below Deck alum Kate Chastain declared “Everything in this photo is perfection.”

The photographers got there first

Cohen hadn't put any of this on his own feed, and it wasn't him who ended the privacy. On June 2 the two of them were shot holding hands leaving his 58th birthday dinner at Via Carota in the West Village. Days later, on the June 8 edition of his SiriusXM show Andy Cohen Live, he confirmed it himself — and told the whole origin story while he was at it.

The meet-cute is extremely Hamptons, extremely gay

The venue was a friend's July 4th party out in the Hamptons, summer of 2025, and he nearly talked himself out of going at all.

“I never get invited to gay parties in the Hamptons anymore,” he said.

He went. He saw Sobieski across the party. They talked all night, and Cohen typed his number into Sobieski's phone and — “apparently,” he says — asked twice whether he had it right. Sobieski's read on that, in Cohen's retelling: “I knew you were serious when you were really serious about this number.”

Then they kept it out of public view for eleven months.

The kids, and the age-gap question he didn't dodge

Cohen has two children — Ben, 7, and Lucy, 4 — and on the radio he described being “slow and deliberate and methodical” about introducing them to Sobieski. “He loves my children and they love him and I love him,” he said. He also volunteered that across those eleven months the two of them hadn't had a single fight.

The age gap came up on air, and he didn't duck it. On the July 8 edition of Watch What Happens Live, a fan asked Next Gen NYC's Georgia McCann what she made of her castmate Ava Dash canoodling with Kyle Cooke, and McCann's answer swerved into a broader jab about women and men 18-plus years their senior. The camera swung to Cohen. “Don't put the camera on me,” he joked, before adding that he's only in a “16-year age-gap relationship.”

Why we like this one

Here's our read. There's a role a lot of gay men end up in — the fun one, the host, the person everybody else tells their business to — and it has a way of quietly becoming the whole job. Cohen has played it on television for a long time, and the boyfriend question followed him around for years while he kept giving the same answer.

He almost skipped the party. He went anyway. That's the part worth keeping.

A year on, the grid debut was a photo of a nice evening and a two-word caption. After eleven months out of public view and all the years of being asked, that reads to us like plenty.
