Part of the Gay New York City Guide — bars, events & things to do.
New York City, New York
A 4,000-sq-ft gay bar in a former Hell's Kitchen parking garage.
Industry opened in December 2010 in a former parking garage on West 52nd Street, and at 4,000 square feet it's one of Hell's Kitchen's bigger gay bars, with high ceilings up front giving way to a large back dance floor under disco balls. It came from the same ownership lineage as Chelsea's old Barracuda, with Bob Pontarelli among the founders. The weekly anchor is Queen at Industry, a long-running drag showcase on Thursday nights at 11. Weekends pull a young, dense crowd that fills the room from after-work drinks straight through last call, and the back room turns into a proper dance floor as the night builds. It tends to run cash-only, so come prepared. Among the cluster of bars on this side of Hell's Kitchen, Industry is the one to pick when you want room to move rather than a narrow neighborhood tavern.
