New York City, New York
Hell's Kitchen gay bar with drag brunch and daily BOGO happy hour.
Rise is a Hell's Kitchen gay bar on 9th Avenue, open since 2015 and built around pop music, music videos on the screens, and rotating DJs. Weekly drag shows and weekend drag brunches, with two seatings each on Saturday and Sunday, fill out the calendar, and there's no cover at the door. It's smaller and more neighborhood-minded than nearby Industry or Flaming Saddles, though it gained some breathing room after expanding into the space next door during the pandemic. The crowd is mostly gay men, and the room works best as an easy, low-stakes starting point: a couple of drinks and a drag set before heading deeper into the Hell's Kitchen bar circuit. For a traveler, it's a friendly first stop that doesn't demand you commit your whole night to it.
