Part of the Gay New York City Guide — bars, events & things to do.

New York City, New York
Upper West Side gay pub with karaoke, drag shows, and Drag Race screenings since 2004
Suite is a small gay pub on Amsterdam Avenue at 109th Street, open since 2004 and one of the few gay bars this far uptown. Co-owner Sujit Balachandran, a regular at Saints — the gay bar that had closed on the block in 2003 — opened Suite to keep a queer space alive in the neighborhood. The Upper West Side spot draws a tight local crowd plus Columbia University students, with a hanging mirror ball, colorful flashing lights, and cozy circular booths. The weekly lineup is packed: karaoke on Tuesdays and Thursdays, RuPaul's Drag Race screenings on Fridays, Saturday drag shows, and game nights midweek. Bombay Frankie Roti Rolls runs out of the attached kitchen if you need food between rounds. The space is small, the regulars know each other, and it reads as a true neighborhood bar rather than a destination club — worth the trip uptown if you want the scene without the Hell's Kitchen crowds.
