New York City, New York
Queer-owned 9th Ave cocktail lounge with Sunday cabaret since 2022.
VERS is a queer-owned cocktail bar on 9th Avenue in Hell's Kitchen, opened in July 2022 by David DeParolesa. On a strip known more for dive bars and cruisy spots, it staked out a different lane: inventive cocktails, elevated bar snacks, and a narrow, well-designed room built for conversation rather than just volume. The programming is theatrical and pop-culture-driven, with drag-race watch parties and guest hosts, musical-theatre trivia, Broadway piano singalongs, and networking nights for queer filmmakers and actors. After dark the space flips into 'Studio VERS,' dancing under disco lights to resident DJs, and weekend brunch rounds out the week. It's the talk-and-sip alternative to the louder rooms nearby, and an easy place to start a Hell's Kitchen night before the dance floors fill up.
