Puerto Vallarta earns a strong 84/100 as Mexico's top-ranked LGBTQ+ destination and one of the most concentrated gay-travel markets in North America. Gay Travel Awards named PV "Gayborhood of the Year" in 2016. For 2026, the city's Tourism Trust (Fidetur) has announced a formal LGBTQ+ Friendly District — a 10-million-peso commitment to brand, protect, and develop the Romantic Zone as a queer destination, described by the Trust as Mexico's first such designation. This is a city investing real money in being the queer capital of Latin America.
