Marvel appears to have found its Scott Summers, and the pick is a name a lot of our readers already know.

Kit Connor is the studio's choice to play Cyclops in the coming X-Men film, Deadline reported on Thursday in an exclusive, saying the process mirrored the Emma Frost search, in which director Jake Schreier and Kevin Feige saw a range of candidates, before the studio landed on Connor last week.

Three more outlets followed within hours, and none of them will say it is done. The Hollywood Reporter has Connor “circling” the role. Variety has him “being eyed,” appearing alongside Samara Weaving's Emma Frost “should his deal close.” Entertainment Weekly calls him “the pick.” THR reported that the studio's representatives had offered no comment about any of its X-Men casting, and Deadline wrote that it had been unable to reach either the studio or Connor's representatives. Only Deadline and THR cite sources of their own.

Heartstopper's other lead is already in there

Heartstopper, the Netflix series about two teenage boys falling in love, now has a foot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Connor's costar Joe Locke debuted in Agatha All Along as Billy Maximoff, also called Billy Kaplan — a magic-wielder whose mother is the Wanda Maximoff that Elizabeth Olsen plays.

The show has other Marvel ties, though they run the other way: EW notes it also featured Hayley Atwell and Olivia Colman, who had already played Peggy Carter and Sonya Falsworth. And EW adds the detail worth keeping — Connor's character Nick is written as a big Marvel fan inside the show itself.

Who else is in the room

Spoiler warning, flagged by both THR and EW: the end of Spider-Man: Brand New Day revealed Sadie Sink as Jean Grey. Where she goes next is less settled — THR says she will “presumably” be in the X-Men film, and Variety says Marvel has yet to say where or when the character turns up again. EW notes that how Brand New Day ends is what sets up the X-Men movie, and that in the comics Scott and Jean become a couple.

Weaving, whom Deadline has in line for Emma Frost, is the other name attached. Inde Navarrette has said publicly that she met with Schreier and would be interested in playing Mystique.

As for the visor: James Marsden played Cyclops in the original trilogy and in X-Men: Days of Future Past, per THR, and is reprising the role in Avengers: Doomsday, in theaters December 18. Tye Sheridan played a younger version in X-Men: Apocalypse and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Ray Chase currently voices him on X-Men '97. EW reports the reboot lands at some point past Avengers: Secret Wars, due out next year, which Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said “really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men.”

Until somebody at Marvel says it out loud, this is a maybe with two newsrooms' sources behind it.
