Chicago, Illinois
An LGBTQ+-owned New York-style pizzeria in the heart of Northalsted.
Big Gay Sal's is an LGBTQ+-owned, New York-style pizzeria on Halsted in Northalsted, opened in March 2024 by Salvador "Sal" Mora and partner Mike Miller. Mora spent years in Chicago pizzerias before naming the shop after himself; the signature is a chicken-mole pizza built on his mother's sauce recipe, served alongside classic slices, whole pies and a full bar. It's a late-night neighborhood fuel stop with a patio, drawing the after-bar crowd on weekend nights, and it leans into the community — a share of slice sales goes to local LGBTQ+ nonprofits and sports leagues. Come for a slice on the walk home from the strip, or sit down with a drink and the mole pie.
