Part of the Gay Denver Guide — bars, events & things to do.
Denver, Colorado
Employee-owned East Colfax neighborhood bar with pool, darts, and burgers.
Buddies is an employee-owned gay bar on East Colfax Avenue, opened in September 2023 by a group of six who took over the former Prohibition Bar space. The ownership model is the point: with the staff holding a stake, the place runs as a steady neighborhood hangout rather than a club. There's no stage and no dance floor — just a pool table, darts, and a kitchen turning out burgers, chicken tenders, and mac and cheese. It fills the role of the easy, conversation-friendly Colfax bar, the kind of spot you start a night at or settle into for the evening. Denver's gay nightlife leans toward the bigger Broadway and Tracks-style rooms; Buddies is the counterweight — low-key, locally run, and open daily from early afternoon.
