Ottawa's only gay bathhouse for over 50 years in the Hintonburg neighbourhood
Club Ottawa is the city's only gay bathhouse, operating in the Hintonburg neighborhood on Wellington Street West. The address carries real weight in local queer history: it's the site of the 1976 Club Baths raid, when Ottawa police arrested more than two dozen men, a flashpoint that still shows up in the city's LGBTQ+ history. More than fifty years on, it remains a working men's club rather than a museum piece. The atmosphere is old-school and no-frills, with a dry sauna, steam room, whirlpool, and private rooms in a range of configurations. A rotating Thursday-night theme calendar (think Bear Fest and Blackout Night) gives regulars a reason to time their visits, but the draw is the straightforward, unpretentious bathhouse experience rather than any spa-like polish. For travelers, it's the dependable option in a city with a small scene.
