Honolulu, Hawaii
Waikiki shoreline home to Queen's Surf — Hawaii's historic LGBTQ+ beach since the 1970s.
A protected-water beach in Waikiki with deep LGBTQ+ roots at its eastern end, known as Queen's Surf Beach. The stretch near the Kapahulu pier and beach pavilion has been a gathering spot for Honolulu's gay community and native Hawaiian Mahu (transgender and gender-nonconforming) communities since the 1970s. Queen's Surf hosted Hawaii's first organized Pride parade on June 30, 1974 — one of the earliest in the US. A commemorative boulder marks the site's LGBTQ+ and Mahu legacy. The Mahu/LGBTQ+ Legacy Foundation holds monthly potlucks here. Gentler waves and a more local-feeling crowd than the main Waikiki tourist strip.
