Little Beach lies just past Big Beach in Makena State Park on Maui's south shore, reached by a short scramble over the rocky headland that separates the two. It is the long-standing clothing-optional beach in Hawaii and draws a substantial gay crowd. Be clear-eyed about the legal position: nudity here is customary rather than lawful. Hawaii has no statute permitting it, the beach sits within a state park, and the state has periodically enforced against both nudity and the once-famous Sunday drum circle, with citations issued. Check current conditions locally before visiting. The shorebreak at neighbouring Big Beach is also genuinely dangerous and has a record of serious injuries.
