Intimate basement cocktail bar on Roberts Alley with a house piano
Marge's is a basement cocktail bar tucked below Roberts Alley in downtown Fargo, accessed by heading downstairs next to The Boiler Room. The space is tiny and deliberate — low ceilings, Christmas lights, a piano that takes up half the bar rail, and walls covered in handwritten notes from regulars. The decor is a self-described homage to tacky Midwestern grandmother aesthetics: vintage spoons in display cases, a sunken red couch, and not an inch of empty wall. The draw is the cocktail program. Their Dealer's Choice — a rotating creation that changes with each bartender's mood and seasonal ingredients — won Best Cocktail at the Fargo Monthly Flavor Awards. Drinks come in eclectic glassware with fresh herbs. They're also the only bar on the block that pours Mallort. In a city with no dedicated gay bars, Marge's has become one of the places where queer folks in Fargo gather on their own terms.
