Gay bar in Fondren North with 40+ years of LGBTQ+ history in Jackson
Shade Pub and Nightclub holds down a corner of Fondren North in a space that's housed LGBTQ+ nightlife for more than 40 years — a long stretch of continuity in a state with few dedicated queer venues. It plays the dual role those bars often do: somewhere between a neighborhood bar and a community anchor, equally a place to drink and a place to gather. The week builds toward Saturday, when the house troupe — the Shady Drag Queens — takes the stage around 11 with the occasional guest. Earlier in the week rotates through the lower-key stuff: trivia, karaoke, and wine nights, open Wednesday through Saturday. The vibe is more welcoming-bar than big-club, which makes it an easy landing spot whether you're a Fondren regular or just passing through Jackson and looking for the scene.
