Part of the Gay Oceanside Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Oceanside, California
1956 Art Deco landmark — musicals, concerts, and youth theater
A gorgeous Art Deco landmark on North Coast Highway, originally built in 1956 as the largest single-screen movie theater in San Diego County (it opened with "Moby Dick" starring Gregory Peck). Now a family-run nonprofit performing arts venue, the Star hosts musicals, comedies, concerts, and community showcases in its nearly 1,000-seat auditorium. Their youth theater program, Star Theatre Coast Kids, nurtures the next generation of performers. With its spectacular vintage marquee and intimate-yet-grand feel, it's a true piece of Oceanside history that's very much alive.
