Part of the Gay Victoria Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Victoria, British Columbia
Victoria's dedicated LGBTQ+ pub with drag brunch, bingo, and a full kitchen
The Vicious Poodle is a gay pub on Johnson Street in downtown Victoria, opened in June 2020 by Socrates Diamant, a restaurateur who ran gay bars in New York before moving west. It took over a former sushi spot, and unlike Victoria's older basement queer haunts it's a ground-level, wheelchair-accessible room with big bay windows and a patio. With Friends of Dorothy on hiatus since early 2026, it's effectively the city's primary dedicated LGBTQ+ bar, and it programs like one: drag brunch on weekends, drag shows, karaoke, bingo, and rotating bear, leather, and trans and non-binary nights. The crowd is mixed and campy, more neighbourhood pub than nightclub. For a traveler it's the reliable answer to "where's the gay bar in Victoria": small, welcoming, and busy whenever something's on the calendar.
