Part of the Gay Norfolk Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Norfolk, Virginia
Hampton Roads' largest gay dance club, two floors in Ghent since 1999.
The Wave has been Norfolk's main LGBTQ+ dance club since 1999, set on Colley Avenue in the historic Ghent neighborhood. It's the largest queer venue in Hampton Roads, with more than one dance floor so the music can run in different directions at once — Top 40 and pop on one, house and EDM on another. In a Navy region it draws a genuinely mixed crowd, and weekend nights are the draw. Friday's long-running 'Fierce Fridays' drag night rotates hosts, DJs and performers, and Sundays bring a drag brunch. It's a 21+ room with a cover on show nights. For a traveler it's the obvious anchor for a big night out in Norfolk — the place locals point you to when you want a real dance floor rather than a lounge.
