Queer Women·New Orleans Gay Guide

Are There Lesbian Bars and Safe Spaces in New Orleans?

While New Orleans doesn't currently have a permanent dedicated lesbian bar, the city has a vibrant queer women's scene with regular pop-up events, inclusive bars, and a welcoming community.

Pop-Up Events

  • The Soiled Dove: PopUp Lesbian Bar — Runs every third Thursday at 10 PM at Palm&Pine in the French Quarter, featuring drag performances and karaoke
  • GrrlSpot — A popular queer women's party that hosts events nearly every month at venues including GrandPre's and Toulouse Theatre

Queer Women-Friendly Bars

  • QiQi — A cozy gay dive bar located Uptown with craft beers and daily happy hour specials. Popular with queer women and one of the only gay bars outside the French Quarter
  • The Friendly Bar (2301 Chartres St) — A Marigny favorite popular with queer women, known for its gritty charm, well-priced domestic beers, and famous pudding shots
  • GrandPre's — Hosts GrrlSpot events and is a welcoming space for queer women year-round
  • The AllWays Lounge & Cabaret (2240 St. Claude Ave) — A queer-friendly performance space in the Marigny with cabaret, burlesque, and drag shows that draw a diverse crowd

Community

New Orleans' small-city feel within a big-city scene means queer women are woven into the fabric of the broader LGBTQ+ community. Most gay bars in the French Quarter and Marigny are genuinely mixed spaces, and events like Mardi Gras, Southern Decadence, and Pride all have strong queer women's participation.
