Gus Kenworthy Is Engaged. His Caption: 'He Said He'd Think About It!'

Gus Kenworthy closed out his Olympic career this year. Turns out he had one more podium moment planned.

The freestyle skier announced Wednesday that he and Andrew Rigby, a fashion exec, are engaged — posting proposal photos to Instagram with a caption that reads like him: "He said he'd think about it!"

The proposal itself sounds like the third act of a rom-com. Kenworthy told People the couple were having a cocktail at the Mar Sea Club during a Mallorca vacation when he led Rigby onto a private dinghy from the St. Regis pier, promised him "a little adventure," and hiked him up to a clifftop on Illa de sa Torre — an uninhabited speck off Mallorca's southwest coast, as Outsports reported. Waiting at the top: a picnic blanket and "a pitcher of margaritas — extra sweet because that's how Andrew orders them."

And after the yes, the dinghy didn't head back to shore. It delivered the newly engaged couple to a chartered boat where six of their closest friends were hiding, ready to celebrate. Rigby told People he genuinely didn't see it coming: "To say I was shocked was an understatement. And then to see our friends there immediately after Gus proposed? Wow."

The rings are matching Cartier bands — gold for Kenworthy, platinum for Rigby, per Outsports.

The two first crossed paths in 2016 — Kenworthy was in Sydney to give a talk — but the real start came in March 2024, at a friend's 40th in Guadalajara. From there, Kenworthy told People, "We did long distance L.A. to Sydney for about a year, and then we both moved to New York together a year ago." The proposal capped a very gay European summer: Berlin Pride for another friend's 40th, Amsterdam for World Pride, then Mallorca to decompress — which, per Rigby's account to People, is exactly when Kenworthy struck.

Kenworthy, 34, came out publicly in 2015, the year after winning slopestyle silver in Sochi, and skied four Olympics for Team USA and Team GB. He wrapped his competitive career at the Milano-Cortina Games this year — where, per Outsports, he was the oldest athlete in the men's halfpipe final and finished sixth out of twelve, less than a year after coming out of retirement.

Silver in Sochi, sixth in Milano-Cortina, and now a gold ring anyway. Some seasons just end well.
