Part of the Gay Québec City Guide — bars, events & things to do.
Québec City, Québec
Cash-only gay neighborhood pub with pool table, karaoke, and drag on Côte Ste-Geneviève.
Bar St-Matthew's is the cash-only gay pub on Côte Sainte-Geneviève in Saint-Jean-Baptiste, the casual, broken-in counterpart to Le Drague a few minutes away. It came together from the merger of two older venues, 889 and Taverne 321, and it still feels like a neighborhood tavern: wood paneling, a pool table, video lottery terminals, and a small stage that hosts drag on Friday nights. The crowd skews a bit older and more local than the dance-club rooms, and the week fills out with bear and leather nights and recurring karaoke. There's no cover, and along with Le Drague it's one of the last two dedicated LGBTQ+ bars in Québec City — which makes it less a scene than a clubhouse. Bring cash and settle in.
