Part of the Gay Chicago Guide — bars, events & things to do.
Chicago, Illinois
A Black-owned South Shore club with drag, DJs, and a heated patio.
Chicago's anchor Black gay club, part show lounge and part dance club, running out of 75th and Stony Island on the South Side. The room hosts one of the city's longest-standing drag productions, led by host Mz. Ruff 'n' Stuff and the Delegation on Thursday and Saturday nights; Fridays turn DJ-driven, leaning house and hip-hop. There's a heated patio out back for warmer nights. For Black LGBTQ+ residents of the South Side and the south suburbs, Escape has long been the neighborhood alternative to trekking north to Boystown — close to home, unpretentious, and built around a regular crowd. Diversion Thursdays and Spotlight Saturdays are the named weekly events. Drinks are cheap and poured strong.
