Part of the Gay Chicago Guide — bars, events & things to do.
Chicago, Illinois
Chicago's first feminist sex shop, in Andersonville since 2001.
Chicago's first woman-owned feminist sex shop, open since 2001 on Clark Street in Andersonville. Early to Bed stocks body-safe vibrators, dildos, harnesses, lubricants, BDSM gear, gender-affirming wear, and a curated shelf of books and videos — nothing made from unsafe materials makes the cut. Staff post personal recommendation cards on products throughout the store. Founded by Searah Deysach when she couldn't find a sex shop in Chicago that didn't feel unwelcoming to women, the store has outlasted every competitor that followed. Early to Bed also runs in-home parties (think Tupperware, but better) and partners with Planned Parenthood on gender-expression gear. The vibe is educational and low-pressure — regulars come in to restock lube the way you'd grab coffee.
