Part of the Gay Washington D.C. Guide — bars, events & things to do.
Washington D.C., Washington D.C.
Northern Virginia's beach-themed gay bar and restaurant since 2001.
Northern Virginia's only gay bar and restaurant, run by owner Freddie Lutz in Crystal City since 2001 — now celebrating 25 years. The beach-bar theme is genuine: Lutz modeled the decor after his own tiki setup in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where he later opened a second location. The menu is American comfort food with weekly specials — half-price pasta Mondays, taco Tuesdays with trivia, $8 burger Wednesdays, and a weekend brunch buffet. Entertainment runs nightly: karaoke every night, Drag Bingo on Wednesdays, and the long-running Freddie's Follies drag show on Saturdays. Before the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, the bar's proximity to the Pentagon made it a discreet gathering spot for military personnel.
