Rehoboth Beach, Delaware
Drag shows, karaoke, and Barbie walls at Rehoboth Beach's queer heart
Freddie's Beach Bar sits a block from the sand on South First Street, the Rehoboth outpost of Freddie Lutz's long-running Arlington original. The signature flourish is overhead: hundreds of Barbie dolls line the ceiling, a collection Lutz has built since childhood and the kind of detail that tells you not to take the night too seriously. After a remodel it reopened as Rehoboth's only music video bar, so the screens are part of the show. The entertainment runs on charisma and karaoke. Friday brings Freddie's Follies, a drag showcase, with late-night karaoke after; Saturdays follow a similar pattern of shows and sing-alongs. It's a restaurant and bar both, equally suited to dinner with friends or a loud, friendly night out, and one of the beating-heart spots of gay Rehoboth that wins over locals and weekenders alike.
