Part of the Gay Long Beach Guide — bars, events & things to do.
Long Beach, California
Downtown Long Beach drag-and-burgers spot with two bars and a dance floor.
Hamburger Mary's is the Long Beach outpost of the drag-and-burgers franchise that started in 1970s San Francisco, and it's a downtown fixture on the Pine Avenue corridor. The kitchen turns out a burger-forward American menu — wings, shareable plates, weekend brunch — but the room is built around the shows, which are the real reason to book. The programming carries the week: Drag Bingo on Tuesdays, the DEE-licious drag show on Thursdays, and the Saturday Brunch with the Brunchettes, a multi-seating drag brunch hosted by Jewels that regularly sells out. It's loud, campy, and family-of-choice friendly, and the food holds up better than a drag venue's food has any right to. Come for a show with a full plate in front of you rather than a quiet dinner.
