Hi Tops is a gay sports bar on the Santa Monica Boulevard strip in Boystown, between San Vicente and Robertson, where people actually come to watch the game. It's the second outpost of the San Francisco original, which ran for more than a decade in the Castro before the team opened here; a Los Feliz location followed. Multiple big screens carry live sports and the room fills up noticeably on game days, a genuine point of difference on a strip built mostly around DJs and dance floors. The kitchen goes well past bar snacks: fried chicken sandwiches, blackened ahi tuna burgers, and nachos built to share, with cocktails named for the sports theme like Mr. Clutch and The Klaw. Tuesday trivia is the signature weeknight draw, with cash prizes; Thursdays bring go-go dancers for Gym Class, and weekend DJs keep the bar and patio busy late. It's the spot for anyone who wants the WeHo energy without giving up the score.
