Halifax, Nova Scotia
Halifax's full-service downtown YMCA with three pools and complete fitness facilities.
The John W. Lindsay YMCA is a 70,000-square-foot fitness and community center in downtown Halifax, opened in 2020 at a cost of $37 million. Named after the construction industry pioneer behind Purdy's Wharf and Burnside Industrial Park, whose family donated $3 million toward the build. Two levels of strength and cardio equipment, an indoor walking/running track, and three pools — a six-lane lap pool, a teaching pool with a movable floor, and a hot pool with hydro massage jets. The facility also has a sauna and steam room, pickleball and basketball courts, group fitness classes, and a childminding center. The YMCA of Greater Halifax runs formal 2SLGBTQIA+ newcomer programming (the SEQUINS committee), though that program operates out of a separate branch. Located on Sackville Street near the Halifax Public Gardens and Citadel Hill.
