Part of the Gay Chicago Guide — bars, events & things to do.
Chicago, Illinois
A Northalsted go-go bar at the southern gateway to Boystown.
One of Northalsted's longest-running gay bars, open since 1989 at the Halsted-and-Belmont corner that marks the southern gateway to Boystown. The Horseshoe's draw is its male go-go dancers, who perform nightly except Mondays — the bar bills itself as the only spot on the strip running male dancers essentially year-round, with a dozen-plus performers rotating across two stages you can watch from any side. Shows start around 8 PM on weekdays and mid-afternoon on weekends. The room has an art deco feel, with black mirrored walls and three separate bars, the third opening only when weekend crowds fill in. Prices stay cheap by neighborhood standards, and the crowd skews male, casual, and regular — people who treat it as a first or last stop on a Halsted night rather than a destination club. Bring small bills if you plan to tip the dancers.
