San Jose, California
Black- and women-owned coffee shop in the SoFA District
Nirvana Soul is a Black-owned, women-owned coffee shop in the SoFA District downtown, opened in 2020 by sisters Be'Anka Ashaolu and Jeronica Macey. Beyond specialty lattes and pastries it works as a community room — rotating local art, small-business pop-ups, and a Friday-evening open mic — and it has become one of the queer-welcoming daytime anchors of the downtown arts strip. It's a café, not a scene bar, so think morning coffee or an afternoon work session near SoFA Market and the Convention Center.
