Part of the Gay Los Angeles Guide — bars, events & things to do.
Los Angeles, California
DTLA's big rock-and-roll gay bar with a dance floor and Broadway terrace.
Precinct is a self-described "rock & roll gay bar" on the second floor of a turn-of-the-century building on South Broadway in DTLA. At 8,500 square feet — one big room with a dance floor, stage, full gastropub menu, and a wrap-around terrace over Broadway — it's downtown LA's largest gay bar. Husbands Brian McIntire and Thor Stephens opened it in spring 2015, the first gay bar to open downtown in nearly two decades. The programming leans hard into its name and its crowd: the Over Easy Drag Brunch on Sundays, Gay Ass Trivia and the VPL underwear party on Thursdays, drag shows and DJ sets across the weekend. The kitchen is genuinely good — American diner-style plates plus a weekend brunch — which makes it as easy to start an evening here as to end one. For a downtown night that isn't WeHo, it's the anchor.
