Chicago, Illinois
Chicago theater company producing LGBTQ+ plays and new works.
PrideArts is a Chicago theater company producing LGBTQ+ plays, musicals, and new work since 2010, when it grew out of founder David Zak's Pride Films and Plays (Zak earlier ran Bailiwick Repertory). Over its first fifteen years the company collected more than 50 Jeff Award nominations, and its signature programs include the QUEERY Playwrights Lab for developing new scripts and an annual adult British-style holiday panto. After years running two intimate Uptown black-box stages from 2016 to 2024, PrideArts moved its productions and offices to the Hoover-Leppen Theatre at Center on Halsted, putting it back in the heart of the Northalsted gay district. A typical season runs around four shows, often staging classic material with same-sex casts. Check the current lineup before you go — it's small-house, queer-forward theater with real production chops.
