Purple Rhino is one of Sarasota's longest-running gay bars and an unusual one: a nonprofit 501(c)(3) run by volunteers, where the affordable drinks fund local LGBTQ+ charities rather than a bottom line. It's a small, neon-lit dive at heart, the kind of room where everyone seems to know everyone and a newcomer gets folded in fast. The week is anchored by drag, with a Saturday-night show and drag bingo on Sundays, both pulling a friendly, mixed regular crowd. Because it operates on a membership model, it has a clubby, members-and-friends feel rather than a tourist-bar churn. Come here for the welcome and the cause, not for a big-club production.
