Bloomington, Indiana
Volunteer-run nonprofit bookshop with one of Indiana's best-curated queer studies sections
Opened in 2024 as a volunteer-run nonprofit, Redbud Books fills the gap left when Boxcar Books closed back in 2017 and gave Bloomington's activist-literary community a home again. The shelves lean heavily into social justice, independent press, and local authors, with a dedicated queer studies section that's one of the best-curated in any indie bookstore this side of Indianapolis. It functions as a third space as much as a shop — the kind of place where you browse for an hour, strike up a conversation with a stranger, and leave with three books you didn't know you needed. Readings, zine launches, and community events keep the calendar full.

Provincetown is famous for its nightlife, but the daytime is half the magic — gay beaches, whale watching, the Pilgrim Monument, dune tours and a historic art colony. Here's the complete guide to what to do in P-town beyond the bars.
Cherry Grove is where gay America summered before there was a word for it. Here's the complete guide to Fire Island's original queer hamlet — its history, its drag-soaked nightlife, where to stay and eat, the beach, and how it differs from the Pines next door.
