Subterranean bias-free bar near Parliament Hill with comedy nights and karaoke
Swizzles is a subterranean "bias-free" bar on Queen Street in downtown Ottawa, a basement room with an enclosed glass atrium and booth seating that pulls a mixed crowd of students and long-time regulars. What sets it apart is how much it actually programs: most nights have something, from Monday stand-up comedy and Tuesday game nights to a Sunday-afternoon "yard sale bingo." Karaoke is the backbone, running Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays with Dog and Pony Sound, while Thursday nights turn the room over to drag. Saturdays rotate through themed parties that lean darker than most, goth-industrial and darkwave dance nights among them. It's a different register from the ByWard Market bars a few blocks east: smaller, weirder, and more about the regulars than the spectacle. Good for a night when you want a scene with some edges to it.
