Tavern on State is an LGBTQ-owned seasonal American restaurant in New Haven's East Rock neighborhood, led by James Beard-recognized chef Emily Mingrone. The menu changes daily to reflect local sourcing and is presented verbally by staff rather than through printed cards. Signature offerings range from a blue cheese and truffle tavern burger to refined seafood dishes like pan-seared halibut. The intimate space seats 45 indoors with an additional 45 on the patio. Since opening in 2019, the restaurant has become a cornerstone of the local culinary scene, with much of the staff identifying as part of the queer community.
