Outdoor bronze-marker walk of LGBTQ+ history along North Halsted.
More than fifty bronze biographical markers line a half-mile stretch of North Halsted Street between Belmont and Grace, making this the world's only outdoor LGBTQ+ history museum. Dedicated on National Coming Out Day 2012, the markers honor figures from Jane Addams and Bayard Rustin to Alan Turing and Frida Kahlo, mounted on pairs of 25-foot rainbow pylons that have defined the Northalsted corridor since 1998. Each plaque carries an NFC chip and QR code linking to a full digital profile. The walk earned Chicago Historic Landmark status in 2019. Guided tours can be arranged, but the streetscape is free and open around the clock. New inductees are added each October 11.
