Omaha, Nebraska
Fair-trade coffee, bookstore, and progressive church in the Old Market
A nonprofit fair-trade coffee shop, bookstore, and progressive United Methodist church in Omaha's Old Market district, open since 2011. Urban Abbey serves espresso drinks and locally roasted Rally Coffee alongside a curated book selection that includes progressive theology, LGBTQ+ empowerment titles, and children's literature. Ten percent of all coffee sales go to a rotating local nonprofit — recipients have included Nebraska AIDS Project and Nebraska Appleseed, totaling over $70,000 since opening. The space is explicitly affirming, listed in Heartland Pride's community directory and home to a QueerFaith campus ministry. Open Monday through Saturday until 5 PM, with Sunday services at 9 and 11 AM.
