What Gay Events are Happening in Washington DC?
Washington DC has a packed LGBTQ+ event calendar year-round, from massive annual celebrations to weekly bar events.
Major Annual Events
- DC Black Pride (Memorial Day Weekend, May 22–25, 2026) — One of the largest gatherings of Black LGBTQ+ people in the world. Founded in 1991, DC Black Pride is the longest continually running Black Pride and the model for the global movement. The 2026 theme is "New Black Renaissance." Events include pageants, workshops, day parties, and an iconic drag brunch, centered at the Westin Washington DC Downtown.
- Capital Pride (June 12–21, 2026) — DC's main Pride celebration with a parade down 14th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, a festival on Pennsylvania Avenue, and a concert. Theme: "Exist. Resist. Have the Audacity!"
- Trans Pride Washington DC (May 16, 2026) — A community-driven annual event centering trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse communities.
- Cherry Weekend (Spring, dates TBA) — DC's annual circuit party fundraiser organized by The Cherry Fund, a nonprofit since 1996. A multi-day event spanning 9+ parties with major guest DJs, benefiting HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ+ mental health organizations.
- 17th Street High Heel Race (Tuesday before Halloween, October 27, 2026) — One of DC's most beloved annual traditions since 1986. Over 100 costumed drag racers sprint down 17th Street NW in Dupont Circle while thousands of spectators line the route. Pre-race performances start at 5 PM, the race kicks off at 9 PM.
- Reel Affirmations (October) — One of the largest LGBTQ+ film festivals in the US, founded in 1991. Organized by the DC Center for the LGBT Community.
