Los Angeles, California
Brooklyn's ANIMAL, with a big tree-shaded patio, in the Arts District
ANIMAL LA is the second location of ANIMAL, the queer bar in Brooklyn, opened in 2026 in the former Resident space on Hewitt Street, where the Arts District meets Little Tokyo in downtown Los Angeles. A big tree-shaded, smoke-friendly patio does most of the work, with a second bar inside under an oversized banana disco ball. DJs typically play Thursday through Sunday with no cover, and food trucks often park on the patio on weekends, since there's no kitchen. The drinks lean agave, with frozen margaritas, spritzes on tap and a non-alcoholic list that goes beyond soda. The crowd is mixed and gender-expansive, and founders Jim Morrison Hevert and Ashton Correa brought over the Brooklyn bar's zero-tolerance safe-space policy.
