Part of the Gay Columbia Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Columbia, South Carolina
A galactic roadhouse in the Vista district, open since 1992.
Open since September 1992, Art Bar is one of Columbia's oldest continuously operating bars — a self-described "galactic roadhouse" in the Vista district, converted from a former tire store and service station. The original carport was enclosed to create the Blue Lady Lounge stage. Walls are covered in rotating local artwork, and vintage mid-century amusement-ride figures called Tobors have been fixtures for decades. Weekly programming runs nightly: Movie Mockery with local comics on Mondays, open mic and improv Tuesdays, karaoke Wednesdays, trivia Thursdays, and live bands or DJs on weekends. Full food menu (burgers, wings, sandwiches) with a kitchen open until midnight. Large outdoor patio. One of the first bars in Columbia to openly welcome the LGBTQ+ community — it's won "Best Gay Bar" in Free Times reader polls multiple times, despite never marketing itself as one.
