Orlando, Florida
Bear, leather, and pup neighborhood bar on Edgewater Drive.
A neighborhood gay bar on Edgewater Drive in College Park, north of downtown Orlando, Barcodes leans bear, leather, and pup, and feels far more dive than dance club. It was known for years as Bear Bar, and the renaming didn't change the come-as-you-are character. The bar is beer and wine only, no hard liquor, with drafts plus domestic and imported bottles, and the room fills out with a pool table, darts, TVs, video games, and a fire-pit patio out back. The crowd treats it like a hometown hangout, a mix of regulars and the admirers who follow the bear scene. Bi-weekly underwear nights and rotating DJ sets keep the calendar moving, but the real draw is the low-key, unpretentious atmosphere rather than any one event. If the Milk District clubs feel like too much, this is the easier, quieter end of Orlando's gay nightlife.
