Longtime gay tavern in the heart of Soulard, open since 2001 in a corner building that's served as a bar for more than a century. It's the neighborhood's only gay bar — an unpretentious, friendly room that leans into its historic bones rather than any nightclub gloss, with a DJ on weekend nights and Soulard's only weekly drag show, 'Monday — It's a Drag.' The crowd is mixed and easygoing, the kind that turns a corner bar into a regulars' hangout. Within walking distance of Soulard's Saturday market and its bar-dense blocks, Bastille is the queer anchor in one of St. Louis's most historic, going-out-friendly neighborhoods — a low-key spot to start or settle into a night.
