London, London
East London warehouse bistro and queer cabaret venue in Bethnal Green.
French bistro in an unmarked warehouse on a back street between Bethnal Green and Hackney, open since 2004. Pablo Flack and David Waddington built Bistrotheque into a launchpad for East London's queer cabaret scene — drag artist Jonny Woo held a nine-year residency here, spawning acts like Bourgeois & Maurice and Dickie Beau. The main dining room seats about 80 under whitewashed brick and vaulted ceilings, with steak tartare, eggs royale, and a live pianist during weekend brunch. Downstairs, The Cockatoo — a green velvet and mirror-mosaic performance bar redesigned in 2024 — hosts periodic cabaret, dance parties, and DJ sets. The 20th anniversary program centered "queer joy and performance art," and the venue remains a fixture of London's LGBTQ+ dining scene.
