Los Angeles, California
Gay Latin nightclub in Montebello with drag, go-go, and Latin DJs.
Club Chico is a gay Latin nightclub in Montebello — not West Hollywood, and that's the whole point. Open since 1999, it draws working-class gay Latino men from across the East L.A. suburbs for Latin house, hip-hop throwbacks, and cheap drinks in a room with no pretension. The space is compact — lounge seating, a small stage, strobes — but the energy punches well above its footprint. Fridays are the marquee, with midnight drag performances and go-go dancers, while midweek nights keep the regulars moving. It's the sister club to Club Cobra in North Hollywood under the same ownership, both built as an alternative to the Westside scene. PBS SoCal's Artbound and KCET have both called it Montebello's best Latino gay bar, and a quarter-century in, it remains the anchor for the Latinx queer community outside the West Hollywood bubble.
