El Pecado — "The Sin" — is a gay bar on República de Cuba in the Centro Histórico, on the block that's become the downtown alternative to the Zona Rosa. The room is long and narrow with exposed-brick walls, tall standing tables in the back, a small stage, and a swing that exists mostly for photos. Drag queens tend to greet you at the door, and the music swings between pop and reggaeton. The draw here is that it's unpretentious and genuinely mixed — gay, lesbian, trans, and drag regulars all in the same room — and it parties hard without taking itself too seriously. It's a good first stop on a Centro night out, away from the tourist-heavier Zona Rosa, where the crowd feels more local and the energy stays up through the drag sets and DJ nights.
