A gay country-western sports bar in the heart of Montrose.
George Country Sports Bar opened on Fairview Street in Montrose in 2006, built on George Konar's simple premise: gay men like sports too, so why not a gay sports bar? Two decades on, it's a Montrose staple — HD screens on every wall, country on the jukebox, cheap drinks, and a regulars-greet-you-by-name feel that the bigger rooms on the strip don't have. It's as much a community anchor as a bar, sponsoring local pool, bowling, and softball leagues and running its own pool and dart tournaments. The Thursday steak night is a genuine neighborhood institution. If RIPCORD and Barcode are the after-dark Fairview stops, George is the easygoing daytime-into-evening one — the place to catch a game, shoot pool, and settle in with the locals.
