San Antonio, Texas
Multi-room dance club anchoring the Main Avenue strip since 2001.
Heat has anchored San Antonio's Main Avenue gayborhood since 2001, set in a former 1950s antique shop at the corner of Evergreen and North Main. Inside it runs a main dance floor, two back bars, a video lounge, and a patio overlooking the strip's rainbow crosswalks. Drag is the headline. Heat is the San Antonio home of Rey Lopez Entertainment, which since 2013 has brought RuPaul's Drag Race alumni and nationally touring queens to the Alamo City; the weekly "Drag Me To Fame" showcase is hosted by local fixture Tencha La Jefa. The club was also a longtime stage for the late San Antonio drag legend Erica Andrews. Between the dance floor and the show calendar it pulls one of the bigger weekend crowds on Main, staying open late Wednesday through Sunday. Best for travelers who want a high-energy club night with a real drag program rather than a quiet neighborhood bar.
