Barcelona, Barcelona
Barcelona's largest LGBTQ+ sports club with 29 sections and 1,200+ members
Barcelona's LGBTQ+ sports and cultural club, founded informally in 1994 when a man named Rudy organized a beach volleyball game at Barceloneta using a yellow ball gifted by a German gay volleyball team — hence "Yellow Panthers." Formally incorporated in 2000. The club now has roughly 1,200-2,000 members across 29 sections. Sports include swimming, basketball (8 teams), football, volleyball, handball, rugby, water polo, athletics, cycling, hiking, skiing, tennis, padel, rowing, skating, and karate. Cultural sections cover theater, cabaret choir, dance (salsa, swing, sevillanas), and yoga. The annual Panteresports tournament is an international LGBTI+ multi-sport event that draws athletes from across Europe to Barcelona each September. In 2022, the club signed a collaboration agreement with FC Barcelona on LGBTQ+ equality in sport.
