Oakland, California
East Bay's Latin LGBTQ+ nightclub for cumbia, salsa, and drag shows
Qué Rico is the East Bay's Latinx LGBTQ+ nightclub, a two-floor spot in downtown Oakland built around cumbia, salsa, bachata, and reggaetón, plus drag shows and themed party nights. Gay restaurateur Valentino Carrillo opened it in 2021 in the former Bissap Baobab space, filling a gap left when the region's longtime Latinx queer club closed — there was nothing comparable in the East Bay until this. There's a full Mexican kitchen alongside the dance floor, so it works as a dinner spot as much as a late-night one, with table service for bigger groups. The crowd is diverse and Latinx-centered, drawing from across the Bay Area, and it's where you head when you want a dance floor that runs on Latin rhythms rather than the usual top-40.
